I get numerous inquires on a weekly basis on chiropractic for kids, HOW SAFE IS IT? WHY WOULD KIDS NEED CHIROPRACTIC? WHAT CAN CHIROPRACTIC DO FOR KIDS? FOR EAR INFECTIONS? FOR COLIC?
The short answer is yes, chiropractic IS SAFE for kids and they actually need it more so then adults. Imagine if you stood on your head for 9 minutes... do you think your neck would hurt? Think about growing upside down for 9 months! All of that pressure on the nerves and neck build up. AND THE BIRTHING PROCESS IS TRAUMATIC ENOUGH! Even if it is a C-section baby. The nerves in the neck control majority of our bodies functioning (including gas, digestion and absorption, neck rotation (necessary for development, feeding), etc. etc). Most of the pressure that builds up affects majority of what our little ones need in order to function.
The chiropractic adjustment in kids is different then it is for adults. Children's bones have not fully developed and are not fused, not to mention muscle tone may not be fully developed... thus allowing the bones to slide right back into place with a gentle adjustment. I don't adjust our kids the same way I adjust my adult patients. With the proper training and techniques, chiropractors have been known to help MANY childhood ailments (ear aches, ear infections, colic, acid reflux, projectile vomiting, bed-wetting, etc.). The only way for our children to communicate with us is to cry... that only tells us that they are unhappy, don't feel good, are hungry, need to change their diaper, etc. When swaddling, holding tight for long periods of time, lack of sleep, failure to eat, and stress on mom and dad becomes too much, and they still don't stop crying, bring them in for a spinal evaluation. WHAT DO YOU HAVE TO LOSE?
