We encounter many people in our practice who have been diagnosed with disc bulges as the cause of their back pain. With MRI imaging we can see what levels and what nerves maybe involved and the cause of the back pain. Your options...
1. wait and see if the pain gets worse (wait-and-see)
2. do nothing, HEY, YOUR TOUGH!
4. pain injections
5. heavy pain medications
(or you have a negative MRI but TONS OF BACK PAIN) - trust us, we know you're not crazy....
Still not up your ally? Still not what you're wanting to hear ??
We're with you. Physical medicine, manual therapy, and chiropractic CAN potentially be a fantastic option for you. We're not going to lie, back pain sucks, especially the kind that travels down the leg, doesn't allow you to stand or sit comfortably, do your job, enjoy your family, etc. Our goal is to get you pain free quickly, safely, and effectively. Some new patients come in without yet having an MRI, if thats the case, we may run x-rays (first, depending on health history, and medical necessity) or begin a series of orthopedic tests and exams to learn more about what's causing your pain. We begin treatment day one. Depending on when the pain is at it's worst... (sitting, standing, lying down, etc), can tell us specifics about the disc bulge, level in the back (L4, vs. L5) etc. That being said, the pain may not be a disc bulge at all, however, it could be coming from soft tissue (muscle, ligament, tendon) irritation wrapping around the nerve giving the symptom of radiating pain. We are happy to offer safe and effective treatments in helping our patients get through low back pain. The time and frequency varies from patient to patient. We've seen such results from 3 visits all the way up to 18. We always aim for fewer visits for every patient to help save time, money, and pain! It really depends on the individual and not every patient is "textbook" case where we can tell exactly how many visits. In some cases, the pain is too unbearable and we recommend MRI (if one hasn't been taken) and/or Orthopedic/Neurological consult which can take up to a month. During that time we can advise care on an individual basis. We won't keep scheduling our patients if we don't see results in a timely matter but look for other alternatives to pain relief. We have a responsibility to our patients and their health. We have several different techniques and tools to help our patients get on top of their back pain and keep it away.
We have individual plans BASED ON THE PATIENT, not a treatment plan that's 36 office visits in 3 months... we tailor our plans on a case-by-case basis. We aim to get you pain free as soon as possible, and then work to KEEP you pain free for as long as possible.
If you or someone you know maybe able to benefit from our care, please call for a new patient appointment, or a complimentary consultation if you have more questions. 319-892-3363.
